In 2011 Soroptimist Club Silkeborg started a mentoring programme with a local language school. Ever since meetings have been organised at the school where club members provide advice as well as assistance with CVs and job applications. The beneficiaries of this programme come from a variety of different backgrounds and ethnicities. They include a Syrian refugee family, the single mother of a mentally handicapped 8-year old and a mother of two small children who has recently relocated from a shelter. The club have already successfully helped a Filipino nurse with her application for Danish residency and her application to SO SU, the school of health and social work from which she has now graduated. With their support a Ukrainian woman has gained entry to TEKO in Herning, one of Scandinavia’s largest schools of fashion design. The language school considers the programme a great success, and the collaboration is set to continue.
